The PiCED branch in Carson, California opened it's doors in 2008 and has established itself as an official partner agency of the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). Our mission in Carson remains the same: To help students, PiCED Mentees, improve their grades, graduate and acquire the necessary organizational, academic and emotional nurturing to succeed in high school, college and beyond.

PiCED Mentees are either referred to our organization by a third-party (e.g. teacher, administrator, partner agency, student) or identified as being academically at-risk through a regular process of review of student records. Upon receipt of official parent consent (a signed form) after the initial intake that occurs with all students, mentees are officially enrolled and begin to meet regularly with PiCED Mentors. Over the course of the academic year, mentees may receive all or some of the following services (free-of-charge, except where noted):

                    1-on-1 Mentoring Sessions
SAT Prep Course  •  This course is held for 4 weeks in the spring. A $20 fee applies to cover the cost of the SAT Prep Manual.
All-Subjects Tutoring  •  Tutoring is held at least twice-a-week after school.
                    Writing/Math Workshops
After-school Enrichment Workshops  •  These include onsite and offsite field trips to various points of interest in the Los Angeles area.
                    Student/Parent Advocacy
College Prep & Financial Aid Counseling  •  Students can speak to a PiCED staff member one-on-one about the college application process and receive help with applications, financial aid, and scholarships.
                    NCAA Clearinghouse Counseling (For Athletes)
Resource Center  •  PiCED is a knowledge resource center connecting parents, students, and teachers with relevant agencies, resources, and information.

In order to be a PiCED (Carson) Mentee, students are rigorously held to the highest standards in the following areas:
